    Responsibilities

    The Engineering Technician performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, or optics areas by constructing, troubleshooting, calibrating, adjusting, testing and maintaining equipment, components, devices, or systems over a wide range of problems. For these activities, you will provide technical assistance with the design, development, construction, and testing of developmental prototype products, transition of pilot products to manufacturing, general electro/mechanical activities, test systems documentation, design, development and execution, and other general research design, development and testing activities. You will work with engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions while operating the related equipment; conduct tests and report data in prescribed format under guided supervision.

     

    • Provide technical assistance in the design, development, testing and modification of engineering prototypes.
    • Design, develop, construct and modify complex electronic circuits and mechanical designs utilizing known design concepts.
    • Works closely with electrical, mechanical, software and systems engineering to troubleshoot systems, parts tracking and ordering, modifying, manipulating and configuring test setups that supports engineering prototypes.
    • Determine appropriate materials and processes for preparing technical assemblies.
    • Assist in the planning, testing and evaluation of laboratory equipment, new and existing materials and techniques.
    • Develop or improve techniques to meet quality, function and cost standards.
    • Maintain effective liaison with all interfacing departments to assist engineering in transition from development into production.
    • Design, construct, modify and support in the engineering of various tooling fixtures necessary for the assembly of components for various devices/instruments that are in prototype, production build and/or test.
    • Perform calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed.
    • May act as technical representative, traveling to customer sites and/or tradeshows to advise and instruct in the installation, operation, and maintenance of Company-produced products.
    • Assure compliance of specific electronic equipment’s maintenance and calibration documentation requirements.
    • Compile, compute, analyze and present a variety of engineering data as required.
    • Specify, design, document, order and, test cabling assemblies and prototype assemblies.
    • Support outside agency and/or internal qualification and validation testing as needed per product.
    • Support engineering and manufacturing for engineering change orders.
    • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications

    • Associate degree in Electronics (or similar) and a minimum of 5 years’ of related experience
    • Excellent soldering skills (thru-hole and SMT)
    • Strong and demonstrable engineering debug skills.
    • Familiar with CAD tools (e.g. Mentor DxDesigner, AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc)
    • Expertise in lab equipment such as Analyzers, oscilloscopes, DVMs, multifunction generators, etc.
    • Able to perform moderate to complex SW installations
    • Experienced with supporting environmental testing internally or externally at NRTLs (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories)
    • Foundational concepts of various technologies: I2C, SPI, UART, and RS232/RS422

    These skills are desired, but not required:

    • Foundational concepts: Ethernet
    • Scripting experience (Perl, Python, TcL, etc)
