Responsibilities

  • Evaluate requisitions for custom nonstandard items, conferring with technical personnel on specifications and possible alternatives.
  • Determine and develop best sources of supply from knowledge of supplier products, performance, and capabilities.
  • Obtain quotes from suppliers, negotiating for optimum pricing, quality, delivery schedule, and terms and conditions.
  • Prepare, negotiate and complete purchase agreements and blanket order agreements with suppliers as required.
  • Award purchase orders to appropriate supplier up to $5,000 assuring all specifications and regulations are provided in the agreement. Provide recommendations for orders over $5,000 and after receiving approval, negotiate and award these orders.
  • Serve as liaison between company and supplier regarding changes in or problems with material deliveries to meet production schedules. May require the assistance of other departments to insure fulfillment of the purchase order.
  • Interface with production/material planning personnel to coordinate efforts to obtain material no earlier or later than required for production.
  • Request assistance from interfacing departments as required to negotiate the purchase in accordance with company and government regulations
  • Coordinate the resolution to supplier problems with interfacing departments.
  • Interview salesmen and keep abreast of product technology/life cycles and supplier status.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and 5‑6 years related experience to be proficient in the above areas, or an MBA and 3‑5 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Must possess a strong understanding of Order Entry, Purchasing, and other manufacturing modules.  Will have a strong knowledge of some commodities that they are responsible for procuring.  Must be able to generate advanced spreadsheets including all formulas and formatting, and ideally capable of running a pivot table.  Requires intermediate/advanced skill level in Word and PowerPoint.  Occasional travel, both domestic and international.
