Scope:    In support of the company’s business objectives and communications strategy, the Communications Specialist develops, plans, executes and measures externally-focused communications activities supporting the company’s media relations and social media programs. The Specialist collaborates with internal/external stakeholders to communicate timely news and information about the company, promote its brand, build and maintain key relationships, share the company story and manage the dissemination of approved information.




Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Develops, plans, coordinates, executes & measures communications strategies/plans targeting key stakeholders.
  • Researches, drafts, edits, coordinates approvals and publishes written content for news media and social media platforms. This includes press releases, statements and responses to inquiry, interview prep material, social media content, messages, talking points, articles, and other externally-focused content.
  • Conducts media relations activities (i.e., build relations with key reporters and editors, develop media plans, respond to media inquiries, support media interview requests, announce news, pitch reporters, build and maintain media lists, track coverage, etc.).
  • Conducts social media activities (i.e., grow and manage the company’s online community, develop social media plans, respond to social media inquiries, prepare and disseminate content, track issues and trends of interest to the company, etc.)
  • Collaborates with others to identify requirements for press releases and social media content. Effectively plan for deadlines, and work efficiently to develop/deliver approved content ahead of deadline.
  • As needed, assists in supporting activities related to Crisis Communications, Marketing Communications and Internal Communications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Business Relationships:

  • Coordinate with subject matter experts throughout the company to include (but not limited to) Communications, Marketing, Business Development, Business Units, HR, IT, Program Managers, Engineering, Parent Company counterparts, etc.
  • Vendor coordination and management.


Bachelor's Degree is required.


Specific Degree Field, only if required:
BSc/BA in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field. 5-10 years functional experience may substitute. 


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required (Unique and Measurable):

  • 4-6 years’ experience conducting media relations and social media activities for organizations.
  • Track record of earned media coverage and effective social media engagements.
  • Impeccable writing and editing skills. Meticulous attention to detail. Working knowledge of AP Style.
  • Understanding of project management principles. Ability to deliver quality work ahead of deadline.
  • High energy, enthusiasm and ability to learn/continually improve.
  • Initiative and sound judgement.
  • Able to function effectively in a dynamic environment and juggle multiple activities and projects.
  • Excellent communications (oral and written)
  • Proficient command of English
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and media/social media analytics programs.
  • Experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry, military public affairs or PR/Communications Agency is preferred.
