Manage and support complex defense or avionics manufacturing engineering and new product introduction activities. Lead a team of Manufacturing Engineers and Methods Specialists to achieve cost savings in areas of product design through internal and supplier process improvement initiatives. Will assume technical leadership for the analysis of manufacturing processes for product improvements and resolution of production problems, assuring maximum manufacturing and supply chain efficiency. Manage the creation of work instructions to provide clear and concise assembly processes resulting in consistent high quality production.  Will be a highly collaborative Lean, Six Sigma practitioner with influence to achieve Zero Defect performance.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assure efficient operation of manufacturing engineering functions that provide for the development and improvement of manufacturing processes, tools and equipment. Responsible for a total manufacturing engineering program to include efficient direction and integration of the following functions:  Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, and Tool Design, Process Control and the integrated release of products from Engineering to Operations.
  • Review and evaluate product design plans and make recommendations in the areas of manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Plan and coordinate the introduction of new products, programs and major product modifications, including means of manufacturing, equipment, tool and test equipment requirements, operation planning, methods and time standards, and supplier selection and development.
  • Define Manufacturing Engineering strategy in support of Company and Operations goals in order to ensure that the Manufacturing Engineering team possesses the right alignment and skills to meet evolving manufacturing needs.
  • Provide day to day engineering support to assigned manufacturing programs to ensure compliance to company’s quality system requirements.
  • Maintain effective liaison with vendors, engineering staff, and other departments to provide resolution to producibility problems and efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and maintain a Total Quality Management (TQM) culture in subordinates.
  • Manage the efficient generation of production work instructions, time study standards, and operations plans to improve productivity.
  • Review and coordinate the establishment of product design requirements that will facilitate the most economic manufacturing results. Assist product planning and design by defining manufacturing capabilities.
  • Coordinate the smooth transition of new equipment, products and processes into production.
  • Recommend make or buy actions that will yield reduced costs.
  • Investigate and develop new processes, equipment and methods to reduce the cost of products or to improve product performance, quality or delivery, with particular regard for vertical integration.
  • Coordinate manufacturing engineering activities with the efforts of other functions such as production, purchasing, and material control in order to achieve timely delivery of acceptable products within budgetary controls.
  • Select, train and develop subordinates. Assign work for most efficient utilization of personnel, reviewing their activities to assure quality performance.  Make appropriate promotional and salary recommendations or terminations.

  

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Masters preferred, and at least 10 years directly related experience within defense or avionics manufacturing environment.

Requires ERP, MES, PLM systems experience.

Must have Lean, Six Sigma experience with a record of driving change for continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will have experience leading activities involving multiple functions.
