The Director Business Development – Helmet Mounted Displays will use a diverse military background with specific experience in military tactical aviation to drive the requirements generation process and win competitions in the helmet mounted display market in both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Using experience from prior service and industry business development leadership positions and an understanding of service doctrine/requirements generating organizations and processes, the Business Development Director will identify, qualify and capture new business for the Airborne Solutions business in the Helmet Mounted Display market segment.


This position would be a good fit for a former Fighter Pilot who has worked in a Business Development Role


Responsibilities & Tasks:


  • Direct the business development activities and win business for the Helmet Mounted Display market segment for Airborne Solutions Business Unit.
  • Utilize experience and relationships to coordinate Business Development activities with other ESA and ESL business units and campaigns to win business in the HMD market segment.
  • Support the development of an on-going 5-year Airborne Solutions strategic roadmap by providing the HMD expertise.
  • Preparation of HMD product roadmaps where the US warfighters are going in the next 10 years; with emphasis on major areas such as Air/Sea Battle, force-wide SLEPs and upgrades and technologies / solutions applicable to both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
  • Assess annual service budgets and long range plans (Program Objective Memorandum) to recommend key areas to target within the service and which are in line with the ESA US Airborne Systems long-range roadmap.
  • Partner with ESA Washington Operations to establish personal and professional relationships with the Air Force, Navy, USMC and US Army service staffs.
  • Establish and maintain direct, personal relationships with key industry and government customers.
  • Establish and maintain similar relationships with ESL and ESA counterparts. Lead Airborne Solutions Business Unit Go/No-Go assessments, and campaigns for HMD opportunities.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Engineering staff at ESA.
  • Manufacturing staff at ESA.


Minimum Qualifications:


            Education (Highest Level Required/Preferred):


      R = Required           P = Preferred           E = Equivalent Experience May Satisfy Requirement


      Master  - Preferred (10+ years management experience may substitute)           

      Bachelor  - Required (5-10 years functional experience may substitute)


      Specific Degree Field, only if required: BA or BS.



Training Pre-requisites (Within One Year of Taking Position):

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required (Unique and Measurable):


  • Engineering and Technical background highly desirable.
  • Detailed knowledge of how the US military services originate and develop requirements and convert the requirements into acquisitions.
  • Proven track record of successful contract wins and documented business growth.
  • Will have 5-10 years’ experience in DOD business development.
  • Military Background in US military aviation
  • Must be a team player, independent thinker, able to multi task and communicate.
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to build alliances.
  • Excellent communication with interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • A strong work ethic coupled with good business sense.
  • A management styles that leads by example and the ability to serve as a team player that can focus on the business objectives of the organization.
  • Strong skills in sales and ability to be a business partner.
